Do I need to organise my receipts before I bring them in?

Accepted Answer

No. Genuinely no. A shoebox, a carrier bag or a folder of phone photos is all fine — sorting it is the job you are paying us for. If you happen to keep things tidy already it may shave a little off the time, but it changes nothing about whether we can help.

Question 2

What if I'm behind on previous years' tax returns?

Accepted Answer

We deal with this most weeks and it is almost always more fixable than people fear. We work out which years are outstanding, file them oldest first, and where penalties or interest have built up we set out exactly what is owed and help you arrange a payment plan with HMRC. Nobody here will make you feel awkward about it.

Question 3

Do you work with limited companies as well as sole traders?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Year-end accounts, corporation tax and the Companies House filing from £600 a year, plus the director's own self-assessment. We also handle the switch if you are a sole trader considering incorporating — including telling you when it is not yet worth it.

Question 4

What software do you use?

Accepted Answer

We work with Xero, QuickBooks and FreeAgent, and we are equally happy with a spreadsheet or paper records. You will never be forced onto a subscription to be our client. If you would like to move onto software we will set it up and show you the three buttons you actually need.

Question 5

How much notice do you need before the Self Assessment deadline?

Accepted Answer

For a comfortable 31 January filing, get your paperwork to us by the end of November. We accept work through December and into January, and we have never missed a client's deadline — but the earlier you send it, the earlier you know the number, which is usually the part people want.

Question 6

How are your fees worked out?

Accepted Answer

A fixed price agreed in writing before we start, based on the starting figures published on the services page. If your records turn out to be more involved than expected we come back to you with a revised quote first. No hourly billing, no surprise invoices.

Question 7

Can you deal with HMRC on my behalf?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Once you have authorised us as your agent we can speak to HMRC directly, chase references, sort coding notices and handle correspondence. Most clients find that alone worth the fee.

Question 8

Do we have to meet in person?

Accepted Answer

Only if you want to. Plenty of clients send everything digitally and we handle the rest over WhatsApp. If you would rather sit down with the box on the table and go through it together, you are welcome at the Stainbeck Road office by arrangement.
